Die fünf Mobiles akzentuieren und beleben den riesigen Leerraum der Halle ohne ihn zu dominieren. Sie basieren auf den Teilen, aus denen sich die Figur des springenden Zentauren auf der Fassade zusammensetzt.
Die Erweiterung der Reichweiten des menschlichen Körpers und deren Beherrschbarkeit werden als Frage in den Raum gestellt. Der Zentaur kann so als Metapher für die Schnittstelle Mensch/Maschine und die Verfügbarkeit von Geschwindigkeit gelesen werden. Die Teile, aus denen der abgebildete Chiron zusammengesetzt ist, werden im Video auf dem großen Monitor am Korpus des Automobilmuseums einzeln aufgeführt – schwarze Bauteile auf weißem Grund, die als langsame Stop-Motion-Bildserie durchdekliniert werden. Hier ist dann deutlich wahrzunehmen, dass sie gewissen Wandlungsprozessen unterliegen: Unterlegscheiben beginnen zu eiern, die Zahnstangen bekommen Zähne und aus der Nockenwelle wächst Gras. Eine Serie von Mobiles aus ähnlichen Bauteilen hängt in der zentralen Eingangshalle des Gebäudes.
The five mobiles structure the vast open space of the entrance hall of the building. They contain the partf of which the mural outside consists. Chiron is the wise centaur of Greek mythology. In this work, his leaping figure is composed of hundreds of mechanical components. The question is raised of the expansion of the human body’s scope and its controllability. The centaur can thus be read as a metaphor for the interface man/machine and the availability of speed. The components out of which the pictured Chiron is assembled are displayed individually in a video on the adjacent large screen: black structural components on a white background that are run through from A to Z as a slow, stop motion picture series. Here it can be clearly perceived that they are subject to certain processes of transformation: metal washers start wobbling, toothed racks acquire teeth, and grass is growing from the camshaft. A series of mobiles made from similar components hangs in the building’s central lobby.
